• Can I Pay With My Credit Card?

  At the moment, we can’t take credit cards, as we haven’t set up the infrastructure yet. For now, you can e-transfer us the money, or pay in cash at the door. We’re working on getting credit card payments set up, so stay tuned for updates!

• Does The Venue Have Food And Drinks?

  Yes, Mashed has a pretty killer menu of pizza 🍕, beer, and dairy-free, vegan, and gluten-free options! Mash Eats also serves wine, beer, and cocktails 🍸.

  Note, however: you will have limited opportunities to eat during the event, so we recommend eating a meal before you arrive.

• How Do I Prepare?

  Shower and wear something clean and comfortable. Masks Off Dating is the opposite of all those apps – be yourself and connect in a way that doesn’t put all the chips on the picture. The perfect match may surprise you.

  Sitting across a table from one another is for other dating events. Masks Off uses movement, so plan on standing, sitting, and moving your body. Go for reasonably comfortable shoes and clothes that don’t restrict you.

  Relax. Art happens in trusting spaces where people are free to be themselves. Masks Off is lighthearted and there is no pressure to be particularly brilliant or cool.

• How Does The Event Work?

  Doors open at 6pm, and you receive your mask at the door 🎭. Masks will be worn throughout the evening until the final reveal at the end of the event.

  There is a half hour ladies’ mixer and men’s mixer for a chance to relax and get to know some of your fellow daters.  The men and women will come together at 6:30pm and doors will close (please be on time).

  Your hosts will guide you through performing-arts inspired exercises during which you’ll have a chance to play in both small groups and in couples.  You’ll have one-on-one time with each possible match.

  There will be an intermission at 7:20 for food and drinks, and we will come together again for the final round of dates and activities.

  At 8:45pm, your hosts will gather everyone together and call, “Masks off!”  Everyone will remove their masks at the same time, and you’ll have a chance to see your favourite matches.

  The event ends at 9pm; however there will be an hour-long mixer for anyone who wants to keep the party going.

• How Many Spots Are Left?

  There are 8 spots for women and 8 for men. We update availability regularly, so if this page is still up, then you can still RSVP.

  Spaces are first-come, first-served.  If you miss your spot; we’ll get you onto the waiting list for our next Masks Off event.

• What About Lgbtq2?

  While we definitely have plans to host future events for the LGBTQ2+ community, this event is for straight singles interested in a relationship

• What Do I Wear?

  There is no dress code; just shower and put on something clean.

  We highly recommend comfortable shoes and clothes you can move in!  You will be sitting, standing, moving around, and doing any number of possible actions.  This will be much more fun if you can move comfortably.

• What Happens If I Cant Make It?

• What If Have Zero Acting Experience?

  Perfect: you don’t need any 🙂.

  We will not be performing Shakespeare, and there are no monologues or scripts.  We’ll be playing short, easy theatre games designed to help you relax, be a little silly, and explore your creative side in a safe and supportive space.  You will be “on stage,” so-to-speak, with some of your fellow daters, but there is no pressure to be “funny” or “cool” or “good” at acting.  Just be yourself – it’s our job to make you look awesome.

• Why Does Masks Off Have A Theatre Theme?

  Because it’s hot 🔥.

  People fall for each other all the time on production.  We see it all the time!  Being creative means being vulnerable, and vulnerability is sexy.  Also, being creative in a group requires everyone in that group to be emotionally open and supportive.  Not coincidentally, vulnerability and support are the foundation for successful relationships, too.

• Why The Masks?

  Online dating and “swipe” culture incentivize us to “browse.”  We often don’t get past the picture when looking for matches, and that means we’re narrowing our choices by a lot.  At Masks Off, we explore chemistry with more than just looks.  Masks give us a little space and a little mystery, so we can notice the things we might otherwise miss.  And if they make meeting new people a bit less cringingly self-conscious, all the better 😉!
